My four family brownstone (used as a two) has five electric meters. I’d like to consolidate down to two. Con Ed says I need to hire an electrician to do the job. Ceriello quoted me $1,000. Does that sound reasonable?

  1. Many contractors charge tax because the certificate of capital improvement needs to be submitted to the contractor by the homeowner. Submit the form, and don’t pay the tax.

  2. You can do this, but Con Ed may want you to put the meters on the front of the house. Be wary of Ceriello Electric. They will charge your tax on the job which is not applicable to capital improvements. Mention this to them. I used them to make 4 meters down to 2 and a lot of other stuff. The added many extras to my bill as the work went on. I had to fire them. Be wary. That is all i can say.

  3. If you have a 4-family c-of-o, it may not be a good idea…you may be in violation of some HPD or DOB rules, so why bring attention to it.
