Would i be correct in assuming my chances of getting anything other than the ugly noisy window ACs approved in this building (or any other NY co-op) are effectively … nil?
What about sacrificing a tiny and useless “maids room” for the “outside” compressor (install vents that replace the window)? then running the pipe work? nil also?
I loath window ACs.
Actually this sounds very much what I’m facing and so I was wonder if you have any updates as to how you proceeded.
Thanks
ah ha, thanks for the compressor tip I was wondering if such a thing existed.
There are also compressor that install like window units, which might be a good candidate for a maid’s room window, assuming you have enough window width. An air handler can then be located somewhere in the apartment (typically in a closet ceiling or bathroom ceiling).
You should check with the co-op – there are many CPW co-ops that allow central A/C – next time you’re around, check out the sides and rears of these buildings – you will often find central A/C units venting out. Also, there may be an airshaft inside the building you can vent into.
