I finally got my 1940’s tax photo – really neat. But sad too. It seems as if my house had a beautiful wooden cornice. Probably was never maintained, cause the roof line is completely without one (as are the sister houses adjacent to mine.

Anyone have any recommendations for a company or restorer? It is not a brownstone, but a brick and wooden house…

  1. Malek rebuilt a very detailed wood cornice on a mansard house at the sw corner of Bergen and Carlton in Prospect Heights. From the point of a neighbor/passerby (ie. me), it looks beautiful. Guess you could slip a note under their front doors and ask the owners if they were satisfied with the job.

  2. Actually most are wooden in the older landmarked neighborhoods. Malek restores them, but I’m not sure if he fabicates new ones, just repairs and replacement of parts.

  3. I had my wood cornice redone five years ago. I’ll look up the name and price.

You can get the tax photos on the second floor of the Brooklyn Municipal building. I think the charge is 25 cents. Go to the Tax Department. I use the photos to verify use and for historic research.

I’ll send the info this weekend.
