Appreciate recommendations for someone who will do a very good job repointing back brick wall of house. Back wall has black tar in several areas. Water comes through at certain points. Want someone good as am told for example that many guys just slap it on with their finger instead of using the tool the leaves the mortar in a concave shape with respect to the surface of the bricks.

Metro does very good concave or recessed pointing. Call them at 718-521-1435
I have used two different contractors for my repointing work:
Buscarello: Excellent quality of work, but I had to track him down and literally threaten to sue the guy to make him come back and finish the job (made the mistake of paying in full once 99% done because there was only a little piece of work left and what lunatic would stiff me on that). Lesson learned.
Amin: Excellent quality of work. And very responsive. Returns phone calls. Will use him for anything else I need done.
Both do plenty of work around Park Slope.
We just used Hassan at Metro Waterproofing to repoint part of our back wall. They did very good, reasonably priced work.
