I am very disappointed to see that Property Shark has eliminated the section that tells who the current and previous owners are, the recorded mortgages, deeds, sales etc. As a buyer, I find that section to be the most interesting and informative! Any idea why? Is there somewhere else to get that info?
It’s not a question of having anything to hide. Some people value their privacy more than others. It’s personal information and shouldn’t be so readily accessible. If someone really wants that info, they should have to put some work and effort into it. Besides, propertyshark is not without error, e.g., I’ve got three strangers living with me, and they are not the previous owners.
I’m a homeowner, and I don’t mind seeing that info there. Your average Joe is not going to be perusing it. I’ve got nothing to hide.
It takes a little digging, but you can get the information through the ACRIS database (google it) and the online Building Information Service (BIS) through the DOB website. You may need the block and lot numbers for one of these. You can get that on the interactive map on the Brooklyn Economic Develpment Corp. website (bedc.org) which also lists owner name, etc.
The sale price of my house is still up there! I’ve asked them to take it down and they said I have to go through some government department… can I demand that it be taken down now? If so, that’s great.
Privacy issues won out, I think. I was not at all thrilled to see my private information listed for anyone to see at any time. I also deleted the photo of my house. No one’s business, thank you. I know certain stats are public record, but there need to be boundaries, and not everyone needs to know everything about a property just because they’re curious.
i used to use radcribs.com before i found property shark.
Oh really! Well I’m a homeowner and I’m glad they got rid of it what an invasion of homeowners privacy. YEH.
i am happy as a home owner in brownstone brooklyn that it is no longer listed. i don’t want people to know anything about me or my house. all i ever get is solicitations because of it–no more yippie!
I also noticed a lot of properties that don’t have prices available at all
