I would like an unruly debate about whether Park Slope has become a bastion of feckless yuppies or a sesame streetesque utopia…Any thoughts?

  1. I lived in PS for 27 years, grew up there. Before it became a haven for yuppies and elitist trash. The neighborhood had diversity and was a great place to live. Now it’s the same deal, same type of people moving in. I would imagine it probably sucks now…

  2. You all are really pieces of work.

If someone doesn’t absolutely adore your neighborhood, they must be poor and can’t afford it? Too much.

There was a Times article on the TV show My Super Sweet 16. And two of the girls who were twits dismissed anyone who didn’t like them as just jealous they didn’t get an invite to the party. Not, you know, that they were haughty, spoiled brats.

Nice to see people here function at the same level of mentality.

Or let me ask you a question: do you vote Democrat because you’re not rich enough to benefit from the Republican tax cuts?

Let’s keep the discourse somewhere above 15-year olds, people. People can have their own opinions. And believe it or not, even some people who may be able to afford it, may just not like Park Slope.

  3. When I lived in Park Slope in the early ’70s, people thought I was crazy for living in such a “bad” neighborhood. Now PS is attacked as a yuppie enclave–you can’t win!

FWIW, I frequently shop and go to restaurants in PS and think it’s a great neighborhood, I DON’T think PS people are any different from people in most other brownstone neighborhoods.

  4. If you hate Park Slope, I would guess you are poor trash. So please stay out of the nabe, You’ll just drive my property value down.

  5. I love Park Slope. The streets are beautiful, especially in the spring and there are so many wonderful things about it, including: the food coop, many synagogues and churches, new mom groups, nice restaurants, loads of bookstores, a big barnes & Noble for reading free magazines, a movie theater, OK transport, OK food shopping, PROSPECT PARK. Do you guys hate PS b/c you can’t afford it? Can’t you love your own neighborhood without picking on PS?

  6. My family left the West Village in the late 60s cause a “new breed” of people were discovering the area. Don’t think of it as annoying, think of it as change.
That being said, I just sold my brownstone in PS this week. Change ( the kind in my pocket!) is good!!!
