I have two narrow poorly configured reach in closets and one oddly shaped closet, under the eaves, that I want to redo.

I want to redo the closets once and only once, so vetoed cheap wire or low priced particle board systems.
I’m now looking at the Self Install or Installed Systems.

The Installed System will be a few hundred dollars per closest but I’m thinking it may be worth it to save myself the trouble of putting together all the bits and bobs myself.

Any recommendation on doing Self Install or Installed ?

Any companies recommended, or any to steer clear of?

  1. If your elfa baskets slide out of the frame, try buying the little parts to stop that from happening. As I see it, the advantage of elfa over anything more “installed” is that you can completely rearrange it to suit your needs whenever you want to. Wish I had had my builder leave the closets un-trimmed; not looking fwd to ripping out trim to install elfa…

  2. Got estimates from Castle Closets http://www.castlecloset.com/home.html and they came up with almost the same design as Cali Closets and at almost 1/2 the cost if done in white. And the color/wood finishes are only a couple hundred more.

So, planning to go with Castle, since they will install for just about same price as a self-install.

  3. Also the Cali closets material was no better quality. You can get different veneers at easyclosets, though I am not sure if they have real wood veneers, just fake stuff, though it looks good imo, for a closet, and wears well.

  4. Anon 5.16. I understand where you are coming from but can say, it will be easy to install. It is just a matter of hanging the tracks at differt levels. Get them to do the free design for you. I did two walk ins (one is very large) and a normal reach in for just over $2k if I remember correctly. The California Closets folks wanted more than that for just one walk-in.

  5. Sorry, with easyclosets, you also cut the track to length. Again, I thought this was easy and straightforward. I don’t think I understand the comment about the easyclosets design program not taking into account the wall “slope”. Give the easyclosets people a call. they can help you work with the program if you have trouble and will do a final double check to make sure your design will work.

  6. The hack saw for EasyClosets is only needed to cut the clothes rods to the requisite length. If you are at all handy, you will not have a problem with the installation. Highly recommended.

  7. For the Cali, the estimate was for the beige (to me, the white looks too Kmart or Ikea like) The Cali wood veneers were too pricey.
For the self install looking at beige and also the cherry or walnut.

  8. Gee, you and I should shop together- though my estimates were higher than yours- you must have had them priced in all white. I agree about the cal closet guy- very nice. I also got an estimate from Closet Factory. Different setup from Cal Closet- look is more like the self install I think. I liked the design that the rep gave better than Cal Closet. I am also going to have castle closets come based on the earlier post.
