BBQ grills permitted?
Are natural gas grills (or propane tanks) allowed in Brooklyn backyards? Tried doing a search on forums but nothing came up.

I remember reading an article a while back that said the grills are fine, but it is illegal to transport the propane tank or bring it thru a building. It is possible that the only legal way to grill (with gas) is to run a gas line to the grill. I did that and the DOB signed off on my C of O. Presumably they saw it…Have you thought about charcoal? The purists swear by it…but what a mess!
yo,
it’s Brooklyn. there are no BBQ cops. make sure to invite your neighbors over for dinner
Grilling is very much against the law. If you like, I could swing by and take your new grill off your hands for free. It would be my pleasure.

It’s in the fire department section of nyc.gov and gives guidelines for specific types of grilling equipment.
So, no ordinances against gas grills in the backyard?

From what I understand the restrictions on propane tanks are around filling them and selling them.
You are not able to fill a tank in NYC but you can use tank exchanges in industrial/manufacturing areas. I believe HD and Lowes both offer a tank exchange. There’s also a place on Smith St. on the other side of Hamilton Ave where you can get them. The place on Smith will also allow you to drop your tank off and pick it up a week or so later, if you want to keep your tank.
God I hope so…I’ve been propane gas-grilling up a storm…
