I am in the middle in renovating our parlor floor. We had to take down the whole ceiling, it was beyond salvageable. What we didn’t quite realize, was how much of a slope there is. My contractor wanted to even it out, but we would have lost 4″ of ceiling height doing that, and the ceilings are only a bit over 9′. The original decision to pull down the ceiling, though upsetting, included replacing the crown moulding that was so beautiful. Now, I don’t think we can put crown moulding up, because I am afraid it is going to look horrible. Has anyone dealt with this and what did you do? Thanks
If you are gut renovating the room than level the ceiling. The 4 inches won’t be missed. Almost every house in park slope leans to the middle.

The house has settled in the middle, so the floors on the 2nd and 3rd floor slope in the middle, and the ceiling on the parlor floor slopes in the middle. At this point we have chosen to keep it this way, and sheetrock without leveling. Everything is being redone, so the door frames I believe are level. Its the ceiling, you can really see the slope.
The trouble is that if you make one thing level it usually makes everything else in the room look more crooked……..Level is not always best go for what looks right. Are your door frames level or has the top jam shifted?
