I need to sell a new Superior/Lennox 36″ wood burning fireplace insert (Model HC-36) that doesn’t fit into the existing (old stove) chimney in my LR – it’s new but unboxed –

I wanted to re-use the old stove chimney location, but this requires a 8″int/12″ext dia vent (vertically through roof) -ideal for top floor renovation. this would be good in new constr. or on a wall that doesn’t already have the chimney bumpout (like a bedroom?) for the details and spec see http://www.homeclick.com/showpage.asp?itemid=245356#options. this one has the herringbone pattern.

it cost about $600. but make me an offer? you can email me at brickcitymadness@earthlink.net – pickup in Cobble Hill or would trade for a mantel or even an antique clg fixture/chandelier…

I will also have much brick (free to pick up next week)

and also will have some old 4-panel 7′ int. doors (some with old hdw) in a few weeks.

  1. we could also use some doors. I’d love to see the pics.

I’m not quite ready for a fireplace stove yet, we haven’t opened up our flews (sp?) yet and can’t afford to take that on yet.

  2. HI – I emailed you back with door photos, but regarding the WB fireplace, lets just say spec’ing it was a “mistake” and I’ll put it out there that the challenge was getting the huge vent (12″) through the roof framing without reframing, or impacting the plaster ceilings at the existing old stove bumpout I want to preserve…will now be building a simple masonry one…which would have been easier from the start.
howver I am also putting in a different model downstairs in the cellar ‘rec room’ – this one is gas, not WB, and only required a 5″ vent (8″ outside dia). The challenge here though was finding a model with an MEA number (both require MEA numbers) and that would allow a vent span the height of a 5 story building (60+ ft) – only one was “Heatilator” brand – if you’re going less than 40-50′ up, many other brand options available. rule: vent needs to go 3′ above anything within 10′(add that to a deck rail, roof slope, bulkhead, AC, etc)

  3. While I’m not quite as far along as you are and I’m not quite ready to buy a fire box your post was helped me understand some fireplace options.

I could use some doors though.

    Thank you,

    Chop
