Rewiring my entire house
I just got a bid of $12,500 for rewiring my home… 2700 sq ft total, downstairs is totally gutted, upstairs walls are intact but ceilings are gutted… Old wiring is all knob & tube… Is this a reasonable price?… seems a bit high considering most of the house is gutted to the studs.

I had an electrician last week he does not have licence but he has 8 years experience
he finished my house (4000 sq ft rewiring all house ,firealarm and pulledsome computer networkwires $19000
he always charges low then others
he was good I recommend to talk with him before go to your electrician his number 718 360 4553
I paid about the same for my 2 family 3 story for a licensed electrician recommended by a friend. It took about 3 months since my electrician has a full time job doing high rises, but he did a really good job. If you know your electrician through a personal recommendation and can see some of his previous work, go for it.
Seens too cheap, go with a real professional
I’m paying $19,000 for the electrical on one floor. He’s putting in about 20 fixtures and 20 outlets and ten switches. Does that sound high?
ok thanks for the feedback… but i’ll get another bid before i decide
seems very cheap
Cheap- I am paying 6500 for one floor
sounds like a good price for a licenced electrician .. cheaper than it would cost in brooklyn I’d bet
2 story house, free-standing… not sure what you mean by “new service” but everything needs to be replaced and updated… I’m in New Orleans, house was flooded downstairs, water was over the electrical boxes and meters.
I also have the option of doing much of the work myself since my father has a good buddy that’s an electrician and will show me how and where to run new wiring… of course he will do all the final hookups… but he says just materials alone will probably run $4000, so how much do I really save considering it will take me so much longer to do it and it’s a duplex (rental income), so ‘time is money’… and there is plenty of other work to be done: floors, walls, total redo of kitchen and bathroom, etc
