Hi,
I live in Park Slope, in a 16-unit apartment building. There is a narrow alley between our building and the building next door. For years, pigeons have loved roosting in our window sills. We have tried applying this sticky stuff that we got in a hardware store which is supposed to keep the pigeons away, but it has had little effect. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience or knows of a good exterminator, as we are ready to get this taken care of by a professional.
Thanks,
Carolyn
You said there is an alley way I’m assuming with walls on at leats two sides? If so take some fine @10 lb. fishing line at the highest point and criss-cross it making a barrier so the pigeons can not pass. When they hit it(it will not hurt ) once they will not return. There will be the very smart few who get passed but not as many. I have arestaurant with a backyard garden and had a bad pigeon problem…..no more! And cheaper that any exterminator or spikes!
Nobody suggested killing pigeons… c’mon people. I’m simply asking for ways to keep them away – not looking to become a bird murdered.
It is against the law to kill a pigeon.
I would reconsider poisoning pigeons. They don’t deserve the bad rap they get — they are the exact same birds as doves (except they are not white), they mate for life, and can live up to 20 years. Not to mention they saved our hides more than once during WWII.
Plus, if you have ever watched a bird die from Avitrol, it’s pretty gruesome, and the poison can end up hurting migratory and endangered birds as well. Not to mention it’s a depressing way to finally go for a bird that has managed to otherwise stave of death by brutal NYC winters, scorching summers, hawks, starvation, etc.
I have recomended Dominick Fusco from Nuisance Wildlife Control for years now, to several of my Customers. His # is 718-714-4503.
I’ve gotten all positive feedback from them.
Good Luck,

Try nix-o-lite it’s the stainless steel wire anti landing product. Also the birds have a very skitish nature and that is why when one takes off they all do. You can try and take advantage of this with something that hangs down from the window and is shiny and moves in the wind like a tin pie plate. have everyone do it. also if someone is feeding them forget about it. they wont leave until the food does.
maybe try a sonic bird repellent? something you mount on your building that sends out noises that the birds don’t like. i’ve heard that works.

I have never used them myself for a bird issue but know that they had a crew of guys that did only that. Other work they did for me was great. Ask for JOE H., I know him very well and he will be very honest with you.
