Flat Screen Over the Fireplace
My wife thinks I am a cheeseball if I hang a flat screen over the fireplace in our parlour room. It is perfectly centered though, and would improve my television-watching experience, thereby allowing me to get drunk in peace every night and ignore my family. Is she right?

You freaking people are idiots. Thank you very much and GOOD NIGHT–and just think we dont have any problems in this country.

I installed above a fireplace, was a bit daunting at first as I’d never even hung a picture before, but I had a lot of fun doing it and really enjoy the 42″ plasma. Just make sure you measure the heat your fireplace puts out at the position where you are hanging the screen & check against its temp specs.
After reading a few a these it is no wonder our country is in the shape it is in. If men spent more time with their family and less time getting drunk in front of the TV we would undoubtedly have fewer problems; crime, violence.
Apparently the only thing men are capable of doing is drinking and operating a remote.
My husband and i too are looking to nount the tv above the fireplace in our familyroom but heard that if you use the fireplace the tv could be damaged. Could anyone suggest a mount that would prevent this?
use a dinendi mirror and frame mount (www.dinendi.com) for your screen. They work great. I live in a 112 year old victorian row house in DC. I used the dinendi mount minus the frame and adapted it to a 1885 wood mantel piece. It’s in my bedroom, but would look just as good in my parlor. The issue there would be the surround speakers, which I’m unwilling to tear up 100 year old plaster to mount. The frames from Dinendi look good, but I had the mantel piece already, is why I canibalized the product.
Finally, take a cue from contemporary design. Spend less time disguising, and more time distracting. Huge built-ins for tv’s only look like appologies, and a tv in the parlor can say that you’re a modern, connected person, and unappologetic about it.
omigod I can’t stop laughing!
Can anyone recommend someone to mount a flat screen LCD? I am looking for someone who can do the electric and the mount.
Thank you.
Did you consider a DLP or LCD projector? They’re cheaper than plasmas for a bigger image that looks great. I love mine. If you don’t have a white wall, you can put up a screen you pull down to watch. However, they’re not so great during daylight, but I have a small TV as a back-up.
A separte room that is a den is a different kettle of fish. Over the fireplace on the parlour floor would seem to be a bit of a decorating faux pas…
