Can anyone please recommend a reasonably priced NEAT painter for my Park Slope parlor floor. Someone who removes switch plates, covers light fixtures and woodwork, puts down drop cloths and doesn’t disappear for days at a time in the middle of the job? I have been having a terrible time finding a good painter.

  1. Hello,

Feel free to call or email me if you need an estimate for high-quality plastering, painting, or wallpaper hanging. I’ll be happy to send you a brief description of my business and the type of work I do. I’ve been satisfying homeowners, designers, and architects in Brooklyn and Manhattan for 20 years. Very neat. Attention to details. Solid references available.

  2. My friend Daniel recommended his painter to me: J-J Painting 914-772-3690. If you’re looking for something difficult or high-end, you might want to look elsewhere, but he said they did a quick, perfectly acceptable job, and were way cheaper than anyone else he and his wife talked to (charged about $1500 plus material–premium paint–per floor).

  3. Thanks to all of you who responded. I’m getting a few estimates tomorrow. Promise to report the results of the job. This is a terrific site!!

  4. Anonymous – I don’t remember exactly how much it was because it was part of a larger job, but I think the skim coating was about $600 for the parlor floor and $800 to paint. The price varies depending on how much skim coating is needed.

  5. I can’t speak highly enough of our painter, James Dockett. He is almost obsessive about making your ceilings, walls and trim look perfect. He is clean, has a great eye for color and design, and is very affordable. He is a Fort Green native and has grown up working on brownstones. His number is 347-200-6022.

  6. Call Valerie Wares – 718 858 8034 or 646 496 3014
She does all phases of painting and decorative finishes too, and she does great work.
