De-Icing Limestone and Brownstone
Given the inclement weather conditions, I’m curious about resources or thoughts on what de-icing chemicals to use on a lime/brownstone staris / stoop?

Safe Pet Ice Melter is non-corrosive, contains no salt and doesn’t hurt pets’ paws. They sell it at Tarzian.
Yes. Please share the names of the products you are using. Thanks.
LG, Are you on the sunny side of the street? Also the depth of the cellars could be a factor — if they extend beyond the front wall of the house (as some do) that will raise the temp of the sidewalk. I’m not aware of any difference between slate and cement but don’t pretend to be an expert. I’d love to see some commercial names of recommended melters suggested here. I have neighbors whose stoops have suddenly developed a really nasty skin disease with massive peeling after using the wrong stuff.
Hi,
The best you can do is use a broom and dry sand. Salt will destroy your stoop in no time.Calcium it’s safer.
I use the kind that says it’s easy on dog paws – one of those that melts without salt.
I noticed today that my slate sidewalk was clear – all melted – when my neighbor’s cement was still slushy. Then I noticed this a little more on my block . . .
I didn’t put anything down. We just shoveled yesterday, as did the neighbors. Is there something about cement v slate in heat/ice retention?
