We are considering buying a house in Prospect Heights and our engineer pointed out some decay in stones that adorn the facade. It’s kind of on a structural part — above a window and such, and we’re going to have a mason come by and check it out. Have other B-ers encountered this problem? Was it minor to have fixed? Our engineer said it could be anywhere from $500-50,000 and I just really hope it’s the latter. Please advise on good stone-mason contractors as well. Thanks!

  3. We are considering a brownstone and would like to have an engineer take a look at the property. It is in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
    Any recommendations?
Also in need of wrought iron up the fromt stairs. We would like to get close to what the house came with 130 years ago…

  4. We are also using Cecil King to redo our Brownstone facade. Good guy, good philosophy on restoration and professional. I would recommend him, but you get what you pay for, so be prepared to spend.

  5. We just had Cecil King (based on Throop Ave in Bed Stuy) repoint the back of our house. The work looks great and he was a complete straight-shooter, very professional and efficient. He also just redid the front facade of our neighbor’s house. I recommend you call him for an appraisal/estimate.

  6. Hi — I sent in this query. I meant to say — “I hope it’s the former” — $50 of repair to stone (and not $50,000)! I look forward to people’s feedback and advice. Thanks
