Window Bars
I just bought a brownstone in Bed-Stuy, but in order to fulfill the mortgage requirements, the previous owners had to cut the bars from the back windows because they were not the “quick release” type. I’d like to put some bars back on – does anyone know a contractor who can do this? Or, does…

Thank you
i called Hector at ABC Welding, and they did a great job – thanks for the recommendation!
it’s at the fringe of Stuy-Heights, on Stuvesant Ave near Halsey and i paid about $640k. i like to location of my house, which was a big determining factor for me. it’s hard to gauge if you’re paying too much without knowing the location, how far from the train, is the block a nice block, etc.
the 2-family registration isn’t completely useless since all you would need to do is add another kitchen and separate bathroom for it to function as one. The electrical should not be a problem if the wiring is new – just need to add another panel and the electrician can just re-circuit. also, for tax purposes, you can write-off anything spent to fix the rental unit if you intend to rent it out.
the bottom line is that the neighborhood is appreciating – even from the time i purchased to now i believe the value to have increased. your offer seems reasonable especially if it appraised at that price.
Here is a good local guy who will put window gaurds up that hinge open and have a slide bolt that you can put a lock on if you want.

What on earth does that have to do with window gaurds??
where in bed stuy? we are just in the middle of a big appraisal row (two family versus one family) and could really use some advice
we are getting our essentialy one family very good condition on Qunicy near broadway appraised at $685k
which was our offer.
we offered this high because it was a registered 2 family, used as a one family with no conversion.
we now learnt that the 2 family registration is basically meaningless.
We dont know now if we are paying way too much
can you suggest ayone we could talk to or have any advice?
