I HAVE A BRICK PATIO . THE BRICKS HAVE SUNKEN IN MANY SPOTS. SHOULD I REMOVE AND POUR A 2″CONCRETE BASE AND REINSTALL? DOES ANYONE HAVE AN EASIER SOLUTION?

  1. Yes just saw this on “Ask This Old House”. Remove the bricks, check for damp and wet areas and dig it all out. Relevel the area with sand, then relay the bricks nice and level, and add the sand between the bricks.

  2. I’d caution against using mortar; it tends to crack after several winters. I’d remove the bricks and level the area with sand. Replace the bricks and sweep sand in the cracks. It’s every bit as stable and is easier to repair.
