Is it feasible to remove paint from Lincrusta, or will the Lincrusta disintegrate? There are panels of Lincrusta in the dining room of our limestone painted dark green and I would prefer to strip the paint and then stain it to give it some dimension. Is it feasible to remove paint from Lincrusta, or will the Lincrusta disintegrate? There are panels of Lincrusta in the dining room of our limestone painted dark green and I would prefer to strip the paint and then stain it to give it some dimension. From my understanding Lincrusta is more akin to wallpaper than plaster hence cannot be stripped. Any thoughts or is it too risky?

Irrespective of whether lincrusta CAN be stripped, why take the chance? I’d suggest paining it with a neutral color primer and applying the stain over that.
“Lincrusta” and embossed paper cannot be economically stripped.
It is a delicate material. I would try a heat gun first. no chemicals. That may work for you. The base of Lincrusta is Linseed Oil. you dont want anything that will break that down I imagine. Here is a link to a site that talks about stripping Lincrusta:
