This home at 30 Windsor Place, between 7th and 8th Avenues, used to be a pretty typical-looking house for the block. But no more. The two-family structure is nearing the end of a fairly dramatic makeover. The DOB permit was for exterior alterations only and there will be no change to the property’s C of O. What do you think? It looks interesting to us, though apparently there’s some outstanding issue with DOB regarding unauthorized concrete work. DOB GMAP
The 21st Street house was also done by Red Top Architects and they did a great job on both. As for the self-appointed ‘hater’, a correction is needed; look closely, the front of the house is not blue painted corrugated, it’s clear cedar that has a semi-transparent blue stain applied.
According to the DOB filing, it’s Red Top Architects. I’m curious to figure out who did 329 21st street (house from InsertSnappyNameHere’s comment above) – I can’t seem to find that address on the DOB site.
It’s a vast improvement over the houses on either side.
And the blue-purple is absolutely awesome!
anyone know architect?
I’m going to discount Bowl (btw – have you seen Louis CK riff on being told to s*** a bag of dicks? Thought maybe you grooved on all manner of packaged packages or something) because he’s been conditioned to hate; it wasn’t organic.
Anyway, that was the most positive commentary I’ve ever read on Brownstoner. I hope the owners print it out and frame it as a testament to their good taste. Even Montrose was on board. There should be the Stoney’s award for anything that generates unmitigated positive comments…
give it one year and the vinyl will start looking better than that blue painted corrugated metal..hell it’s already starting to fade unevenly..obviously the decision of an amateur! (Sorry, but someone’s gotta be the obligatory hater so I nominated myself)
It’s a bit cartoonish. I like it, though bigger windows would make me like it even more.
very sweet. this is a good example of modernization done right.
Fabulous! Who doesn’t love GOOD modern design? This is a shot of energy on an otherwise pretty drab street. It’s all the fugly stuff that one assumes no architect ever went near that gives modern a bad name.
