26-35 14th street-100713

These two new buildings come from 14th Street, right off 27th Avenue in Astoria. Looking at the DOB documents, it appears that these have been under construction for a long time indeed. We’re not sure what anyone was thinking mashing those two designs side-by-side. The owner certainly wasn’t trying to be contextual, given that this is a residential street mostly filled with set-back, single-family homes. You can see the home demolished for this construction after the jump. GMAP

  1. I grew up in this house and I have not visited the block since 2009. I had no idea that this ugly piece of junk would be built there. It’s really embarrassing and wished the owner would have built something that would resemble the neighborhood style.

  2. It’s a shame they tore down the old house. I’m sure the owner next door isn’t too happy about loosing so much sunlight with that huge box next door, Beautiful porch though. Completely out of context I agree, but it’s still not as bad as the Fedders style buildings next to it and on the adjacent block. They really treated this lot like Tetris, it’s on the lot line of both sides. Welcome to Queens.

    • Ugly Ugly Ugly! The home before was charming maybe needed a little landscaping and some added things like a new door and awning. Such a shame. Communities in Queens need to work on limiting these out of context buildings and keep boundaries on the residential areas to stop this.
