Development Watch: 705 Greene Avenue
Here’s another gem of a new development, a new building coded for a residential two-family home. It’s hard to imagine that anyone who’s attended architecture school could be even tangentially involved in something like this. Here’s another gem of a new development, a new building coded for a residential two-family home. It’s hard to imagine that anyone who’s attended architecture school could be even tangentially involved in something like this. It feels more like one of these places that was constructed based upon whatever building materials happened to be on sale that day at Home Depot. Amazing! GMAP P*Shark DOB
Indeed – we are getting some serious Home Depot fugly new buildings – including a lot that jut out past the set back of a row of brownstones. Isn’t there some authority that’s supposed to approve things at the DOB? I know you can’t stop that which may be just ugly – but what about buildings that take over the sidewalk? And speaking of fugly the Hasids are building a Mediterranean monstrosity on the corner of myrtle and marcy.
I trust that the setback is there to provide illegal side-by-side parking by the two units?
I like how the octagonal polyurethane window balances whimsically with the in-wall air conditioner and the way off-center set of 6-by-6’s. It’s a shame the architect couldn’t find a way to work a Pella palladium window into that montage, and perhaps some glass block and diagonal vinyl siding.
Some of the new houses being built in Clinton Hill or Bed Stuy are as ugly as the empty lots they once sat on.

I like it.

I’m sorry – it is hideous – it’s all over the place – not coherent, the worst of all that’s wrong with sub prime buildings and the mortgages that fueled this type of mediocrity.
Not even close to hideous. Some of the design elements are questionable, but this is far from the worse of the lot. I sort of like it.
this is unfortunate because the brick is fine and kinda of attractive. bizarre that they just didn’t stick with it the whole way. black window frames would’ve been much better. i don’t hate what i see of the entrance because i prefer some sort of overhang or awning as a simple practical benefit.
Not Home Depot, Lowes…and one in Staten Island, obviously.
Barf!
