Despite the recent victory of Atlantic Yards opponents in court, the first steel girders have risen above the construction fence at the corner of Atlantic and Flatbush. Plenty of news outlets reported this morning that the stadium, which is expected to be done summer 2012, is beginning to “take on [its] iconic shape,” in the words of Bruce Rater. Construction is supposed to move steadily over the next few months, despite the concern from DDDB legal director Candace Carpenter, who says They are rushing to get as much in the ground as they can before we seek a stay from the court. Atlantic Yards Report says a construction stay is unlikely, as it wasn’t part of the ruling earlier this month.

They really think it’s only going to take two more years?
You’ll fit in perfectly with the losing talentless NJ Nets BB team!! A handful of losers sitting in an empty arena with nothing else to do but watch a losing LAST PLACE team…. Nice life, GO NJ NETS!! Yes, a WIN-WIN for FCR/NJ Nets…. Clueless fans dreaming of sitting with the ‘wealthy Russian skybox’ owners…. Sounds like a bunch of losers…..

Nope, I’m not the loser. Property values increase and I get to walk to an NBA game, as well as derive unlimited amusement from watching people who believe that they can make a difference fail again and again. A “win-win” situation any way you cut it.
The real loser is you Big Jugs & your OCD regarding AY & Norm Oder!!!

I’ve never seen a bigger group of losers than DDDB. It must be nice to be a rich person with so much time on one’s hands.
D-O-N-E-D-E-A-L!!!
This development is going to be nothing except an arena surrounded by surface parking lots for the next 10-15 years. It’s going to be a long time before its viable to build any of the housing included in this plan. If you think the sight is an eyesore now, it’s going to stay that way. The only difference is you’ll be surrounded by gridlocked traffic while you’re looking at at.
its the first annual pre-thanksgiving parade Doofus Parade!
True, it’s not smack in the middle of any particular neighborhood. It is smack in the middle of several – which is to say – surrounded by them.
Fun With Semantics 101 is now adjourned for the holiday break.
Arkady – “It’s on the edge because the nabes were razed.”
No its on the edge of three neighborhoods because Ft Greene, and Prospect Heights are bordered north/south by Atlantic Avenue and Park Slope is bordered (sort of e/w) by Flatbush Ave.
You are entitled to your opinion but you cant change the fact that the site was never “smack in the middle” of ANY neighborhood for something approaching 200 years….the Native Americans will have to speak for time prior.
