What's Going on at Leo's Corner?
Okay, this one is frustrating us. A few weeks ago, Leo’s Corner, at 481 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, was papered up, but we saw no action in terms of construction or renovation. Okay, this one is frustrating us. A few weeks ago, Leo’s Corner, at 481 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, was papered up, but we saw no action in terms of construction or renovation. Then, mysteriously, the paper came down. When we peeked inside there was a full bar setup, but it looked pretty similar to that of Leo’s Corner. So someone is either planning to reopen a similar looking bar, or construction hasn’t even started yet. No recent DOB permits either. Does anyone have any info on this place? GMAP
yeh that place looked like someone just left for the night, intending to come next day and just didnt. the bar was fully stocked…some bar lights still on…maybe even that stupid quickdraw machine on. the place was total cheeze-ville…tracksuit required.
i’ve seen some renovating going on in the apartment upstairs….dont know if that’s anything.
Ditto on Sparky’s – used to love that place and they totally screwed it up.
Oh, and BTW, the full bar setup is leftover from Leo’s. The bottles have been sitting there since they closed their doors.
…and the Awaye Realty sign keeps going up and down on the outside windows. Absolutely baffling.
But then again, Leo’s has always been an enigma. It took them FOREVER to open the place. From the street, it seemed ready to go almost a year before they finally opened the doors. I can’t imagine how much money in rent they pissed away.
Hmm. They aren’t doing a very good job of keeping hard liquor out of the radius – unless Prime Meats, Frankies et al are secretly serving colored water to their patrons.
I also heard, not sure how true it is, that the church across the street is making sure that the “no hard liquor sales within 500′ of a church” law is being enforced. Tough to pay the rents being asked for bars today when you can only sell beer and wine.
it’s my understanding that they let the “grandfathered” liquor license expire, and are unable to get a new one, hence all the booze set up they can’t legally sell, and the place not being open..just silly.
ohhhhh Sparky’s! that takes me way back……
