Written in Stone: Tales of Green-Wood

The monuments and mausoleums of Green-Wood have many fascinating stories to tell and some of the most interesting are not about the most famous. Visit their final resting places with tour guide Ruth Edebohls and hear the stories of the Indian Princess, the girl who died on her 17th birthday, the heart-broken husband who waved good-bye to his wife in the morning never to see her again, the man who built The Funny Place, an inventor and his dog, and many more. Sunday, August 15. 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. $15. Meeting place at the Gothic Arch inside the entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue.

The Brooklyn Flea
The Flea is located not only at the former bank at One Hanson, but also at the Fort Greene market. On Saturdays, the market will be located at the Fort Greene location and on Sundays you can find the market at One Hanson which is located at the clocktower Art Deco building at Flatbush Ave., across from the Target mall. The Flea features 100 vendors and a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday & Sunday, August 14 & 15. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 176 Lafayette Avenue and 1 Hanson Place, Skylight One Hanson.

Trees of Brooklyn Bridge Park

Come explore and identify the different trees in Brooklyn Bridge Park through the use of exploratory questions and scientific tools. They learn tree identification and tree health assessment, in addition to estimating tree height and age while touring the park. Saturday, August 14. 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Free. Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Nurturing Nature

Greenpoint was the national epicenter of the Asian Long Horned Beetle crisis that decimated trees help nurture our local trees through this heat wave and drought. If you can’t join on Friday morning, please give care to your nearest street tree, or adopt a tree in one of our parks for watering. RSVP to osa@osanb.org. All are welcome! ‘We Are Africa’ Road Tour

African Ancestry, the company that pioneered DNA – based ancestry tracing for people of African descent, is going mobile by taking ancestry tracing on a 14-city trek to help African Americans more easily and accurately access their ancestral roots. African Ancestry solicited the input from its online community of members and local networks of partners and alliances to find out where the Tour should go. Based on overwhelming feedback and excitement, it was clear that the ‘We Are Africa’ Road Tour would make its way to New York. Sunday, August 15. 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. 373 Lewis Avenue, House of Art.
