“Yeah, you may eventually “get over it”, but it’s not the same as losing money in the stock market, or some purely financial gamble. ”
actually it is. real estate is an investment just like any other, sometimes you make money sometimes you lose money.
“I can’t stand people who have no idea what they are talking about make pronouncements about people’s lives and states of mind.”
Funny, MM, that is exactly what you have been doing for years with developers like Bruce Ratner and landlords who attempt to void rent-stabilized apartments. As always, with you it’s do as I say and not as I do.
This talk of foreclosure is alarming.
You’re emphasizing emotion, MM. I’m emphasizing fiscal health and responsibility whether it feels good or not. These individuals are ALREADY suffering an emotional drag (drowning in debt) and that makes this process necessary for them and the economy, in order to allow for a real recovery, not this Washington reGOVery headfake. The worst feeling decision is often the right decision.

I’m sorry, BHO, but losing your home to foreclosure is more than just the opportunity to live rent free and blithely start over. It most certainly is a “drag on them”. I can’t stand people who have no idea what they are talking about make pronouncements about people’s lives and states of mind. For most people, especially those who have fallen behind through no fault of their own, ie layoffs and losing of jobs, getting foreclosed on is like losing your house in a fire. Yeah, you may eventually “get over it”, but it’s not the same as losing money in the stock market, or some purely financial gamble. It’s someone’s HOME.
Mortgage modification has been an epic failure but city/state advocates want to keep home “owners” on life support. I wonder why.
Oh wait!
“People are losing their homes. It continues to be a drag on our regional economy…Union officials say pension funds are hurt by foreclosures because they weaken the economy and hurt bank profits, helping to drive down bank share prices.” – New York Presses Banks on Foreclosures [NY Times]
So they’re trying to preserve bubblicious prices (keep inventory tight) and bank solvency under the guise of “helping homeowners”.
People losing “their” homes is certainly not a drag on them. Live “rent-free” for 18 months or more to get their financial house (the one that matters) in order and then rent for much less than they were paying to “own”. Credit already shot – how much worse will it get? Of course there’s jobs and apartments you can get with f***ed up credit. If you have to relocate than that’s what it is.

Indifferent cops. There’s something new. Prayers go out to the victim.
Wondering if the SUV driver is from some other law enforcement agency, considering the sting work done at Tillies and the public phone at the corner of Vanderbilt and DeKalb. Could be trying to protect the fact that they are still in the neighborhood??? Tragedy, and very suspicious.
If the cops are using their professional courtesy against an IRS guy they should know it won’t be recipocated.
There needs to be investigation regarding this accident, and the apparent cover up. Kudos to Tish for being out there, but I have contacted her office and those of DOT numerous times regarding speeding and inappropriately heavy traffic on DeKalb. All that came of it was a bike advocacy group offered me a speed gun to borrow so I could check car speeds myself. Useful.
I am sorry someone has been killed because of DOT inaction.
