The new spinoff down the block from Traif opens tonight. It is called Xixa, pronounced “shiksa,” as in a non-Jewish woman, as in co-owner Heather Heuser. Pretty funny. The menu is Mexican tapas a la Traif Chef Jason Marcus, which means decadent haute-low fusion dishes such as deep-fried squash blossoms stuffed with cheese, foie gras al pastor, calamari with black beans and chorizo, and corn with tom yum spice. As noted previously, the bar will focus on wine, although other spirits such as beer and tequila will also be served. In recent weeks, the space has hosted a couple of private parties for friends and Traif regulars. Above, the bar and dining room.
