Here’s the damage report from Prospect Park: 103 trees down, 44 severely damaged or leaning trees, 38 large limbs down, and 622 other large branches damaged. The staff has inspected most of the park, finished clearing the perimeter sidewalks, and cleared out the 3rd Street Playground and the Imagination Playground. The other playgrounds still have bad tree conditions and the Lincoln Road Playground is closed until reconstructed. The Prospect Park Alliance thinks it may take many months before the park is back to normal. In the meantime, if you are interested in volunteering with the New York City Department of Parks and Rec to aid in the clean up and recovery process, that’s happening today, Saturday and Sunday. Sign up here. There will also be an opportunity to clean up McCarren Park this Saturday only. Also, the Walkathon is still on at Prospect Park this Saturday, and all proceeds will go toward repairing the park.
