Taro Sushi Opens in New Location
Taro Sushi, which began making the transition from 446 Dean Street to the corner of Flatbush and St. Marks this summer, is now open. The space isn’t huge but it’s definitely nice. Did anyone stop by over the weekend? Taro Sushi Moving to Flatbush Avenue [Brownstoner] GMAP

Since, I’m not really a drinker, I could care less about the license or BYOB. Having gone to the new site, it’s a very remarkable improvement. And, the owner/head chef, is actually behind the counter now, so you can taste the difference.
Thanks, jesse. It’s nice to get more information on something to keep from making half informed decisions.
Lala, Toro can come from any tuna (“toro” just means from the belly cut). It’s usually from yellow tail unless you’re at a high end place, where it’ll be marked as being from Blue Fin or even Big Eye, and then usually otoro or chutoro (indicating fattier / more marbled pieces). If it doesn’t say so, it’s just from yellowtail and perfectly PC to eat.
Toro comes from the nearly extinct bluefin tuna. Please don’t eat it.

My girlfriend and I ate there on Sat night. Was a little disorganized but service was good once we got seated. Sushi was excellent. High quality fish with an interesting variety of stuff you don’t see everywhere (butterfish, tile fish, three kinds of mackarel).
As mentioned above, they do have bluefin tuna which we found very disappointing given that eating bluefin tuna is like tiger or some other badly endangered species. Not sure if we will go back because of this.
“I looked in the window on I believe Wednesday night. Lots of beautiful people.”
Why didn’t you pop in to say hello??
😉
Taro, Geido, and Blue Ribbon: my sushi faves. The sushi place across Flatbush on the Prospect-Heights side of 6th Ave is also quite good.
one of the only Japanese-owned sushi places I know in BKLN. And, while most of the chefs are Chinese, the head chef is Japanese. i thought it was head and shoulders above the “Japanese” sushi that is all over the Slope. Tho, Geido on Flatbush is not bad

I do usually go to Koto for takeout, but I’ll go here for sitdown sushi dinners I think.
