The Park Slope Civil Council is holding a design contest for the 3rd Street entryway at Prospect Park. Right now there are movable barriers in the entrance, which was closed off from cars last year. They are looking for a design that provides a bike lane into the park, has barriers up for automobiles, and is “attractive, contemporary, contextually appropriate and visually clear.” Winners will be announced this November. For more information you can check out the Civic Council’s website.

  1. Why not just use the same type of barriers they have at Bartel Pritchard Square- Only more block shaped like the ones pictured above rather than cylindrical like the ones at BPS. They have metallic black ones that block the entrance to the parking lot across from the Pavillion and they use larger cement ones to block vehicles from entering the pedestrian paths.- I cannot believe they are even wasting time with a design contest(you have to pay fees in order to submit your design no less!)- I cannot imagine what they are gonna come up with that is so different than what is already in place at BPS. Unless they put in a Arch with a detailed wrought iron gate- it’s most likely gonna end up being a basic barricade similar to what they already have in place else where.
