Closing Bell: New Trees for Flatbush Median
A few days ago a tipster let us know trees were going into the Flatbush Avenue median from Fleet Street to Myrtle Avenue. By the time we stopped by, it looked like the job was already done. This should perk up the busy Downtown intersection nicely if the warmer weather decides to stick around….

This project will be one of the beautfication gems of Brooklyn.
Flatbush Extension is named that because originally Flatbush ended at Fulton Street. They extended the road to meet the Manhattan Bridge later on, and since the original Flatbush was already numbered, the Extension was put into place (This is how 7th Avenue South was handled south of Greenwhich Ave). Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be an interest in fixing Flatbush up between DeKalb and 4th Ave
weren’t the trees planted down the middle of flatbush ave extension? and isn’t it time that the city removed the word ‘extension’ from that stretch of highway?
My question is: who and how are they going to water them? Baby trees need lots of love, especially with the weather warming up.
Great addition and once they do this on 4th, the whole compplexion of the street will change (as it will here)
And btw – thanks for another mindless comment *rob*
Nice addition, but that stretch of Flatbush will still seem like a windy highway, now one overshadowed by a phalanx of skyscrapers standing around like antisocial giants.

trees are cool and all but sometimes some people dont like them. and really the only true impact they have is raising the rent.

Very nice improvement.
I’m looking forward to when they do domething similiar on 4th Ave.
Agreed, I wonder why they stopped at DeKalb and didn’ finish this at Fulton or Lafayette. The median also brought an additional traffic signal at Johnson which is huge, the weird statue at Tillary, and additional trees on the sidewalks which will allow a much better pedestrian experience and make LIU that much nicer.
