Mexican spot El Pitayo is a thing of the past at 213 Smith Street. In its place, according to this photo sent in by a tipster, will be a Mediterranean restaurant. We don’t know anything about the new place’s pedigree but it looks like the new proprietors have put some effort into spiffing up the facade. GMAP
If by spiffing up one means the stained wood above a fully-opening glass facade, that was actually done many months ago in the transition from El Pitayo to the short-lived “213 Mexican.”
It did make the place look significantly nicer, but for some reason after the renovation they never really put up a proper sign for “213 Mexican” (and what a horrible name…). If they’d had a decent name and put up a cool sign on that stained wood, they may have actually attracted more traffic.
Great what we need more of in this area: Mediterranean and maybe some more italian.
