Japanese Market for Eks Space?

We noticed some work being done at the old Eks fro-yo place on Vanderbilt. When we poked our head in no one was telling us anything, but this Brooklynian thread says it is going to become a Japanese market. The poster also noticed a worker wearing a JAS Mart jacket and wondered if the specialty Japanese store was coming in from the East Village. That could be pretty sweet. Bring on the Asahi Black. Prospect Bagels and Eton are coming to that block as well. Good news all around! GMAP
Damnit, with Courderoy Kids and /Eks both gone, our walk to the Botanical Gardens with the moppet just got a lot less interesting.
Oh, I forgot the link…

“Now, all we need is a good butcher shop.”
M&S Prime Meats on 5th Avenue was just named one of the best butchers in Brooklyn. I know it’s a tad farther, but you mentioned Blue Apron, Natural Land and BKLYN Larder, all of which are in Park Slope too…
Just a couple minute farther walk into the Slope.
If this actually does open as a Japanese market, combined with natural Land, and Blue Apron/Bklyn Larder, this is shaping up to be a great foodie neighborhood.
Now, all we need is a good butcher shop.
I never understood why they put this here. Wrong location. Not only that, but it was almost never open.
It was open at odd hours. The daughter of the family who runs Caree Cleaners up the street was managing it, and I think they kept shorter and shorter hours as it became clear it wasn’t going to work out. Shame, really– she’s incredibly sweet, as is the whole family.
I wish they sold wasabi kit kats.
That’s awesome news.
Love the JAS Market!
A JAS mart would totally rock here.
