ch_renter, thanks. When I posted that, I had a feeling that was the case.
ditto- I have a hard time believing they aren’t all working still 🙂
bxgrl – you have a point. Most young men just find it hard to back down from a confrontation. A whole lot of trouble ensues from that fact. I was the same way when all my hormones were still working.
Sorry but not to jump on the beat up on NYPD bandwagon but don’t you think that wiseass was a little stupid? He knew what he was doing, he knew he was pissing them off but he kept doing it. I think he wanted an incident and he got it. doesn’t excuse the overreaction of the police but seriously, if a cop says mind your own business, why would you purposely get into a confrontation with them? Not for nothing, but there are reasons why cops do what they do.
@CGar: you will get a ticket riding your bike with an iPod if the earbuds are in both ears. Riding with earbud in only one ear is allowed.
the sooner we move to Futurama-type robot cops so we can dispense with power struggles and egos the better.
However, jaywalkers might got shot on sight.
Jesus H. effing Christ! I just wrote a terrific couple of paragraphs but got timed out.
Anyway, sherrif’s office can video a car tow – if they can anyone can.
Swearing at a cop is allowed if no one’s w/in a certain distance – otherwise it’s inciting to riot.
I’m not sure how much public opinion changes policies when it comes to civil liberties.
It seems like many changes in this area take place through the court systems, which have become more and more willing to support the police over the last 20 years.
I do think that the constant presence of video recording has done a lot to curb police abuse, which is why I worry about efforts to make recording illegal.
I understand not interfering with police officers, but this was taken to a frightening extreme for someone who truly didn’t seem to interfere. Just hope this doesn’t turn into another multimillion lawsuit.
As for recording police, I think there may be some law against it in NYC already….I pulled my camera out to try and take a pic of police getting aggressive with a homeless man, and as soon as one of the cops saw me, he aggressively came at me with his hand blocking the lens telling me to put it away, and that I wasn’t allowed to take pics.
