A powerful glow emanates from Dyker Heights this time of year, as residents compete to put on the most extravagant and densely packed displays of the holiday season.

The installation of the intricate exhibits started in November to prepare for the post-Thanksgiving crowds. This year was no exception despite frustrations on the part of some residents over the noise, traffic and general upheaval created from the tidal wave of thousands of onlookers who flood the neighborhood to gaze in wonderment at the over-the-top displays.

The extravaganza is concentrated between 11th and 13th avenues and 83rd through 86th streets, with complicated lighting displays, oversized characters and even some musical accompaniment.

After looking through a multitude of images, here are our top Instagram image picks that capture the sparkle of a Dyker Heights holiday.
