It’s easy to find the way to Dyker Heights at this time of year, as the neighborhood glows with thousands of lights and extravagant holiday displays.

An annual tradition for decades, residents start decking their houses in November, getting ready for the post-Thanksgiving crowds to descend on the streets. The most brilliant displays are concentrated between 11th and 13th avenues and 83rd through 86th streets, with splashy lighting, music and giant character displays. While locals will need to put up with traffic and packed sidewalks this year, they won’t be dealing with food vendors. This fall, City Council voted to ban street vending in the the most densely ornamented streets between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

Those drawn to the yearly display are starting to show off their images on Instagram. Here are some top picks to get you into the spirit of the holiday in Dyker Heights.
