Total Wine Bar Totally Shut?
A reader wrote in wondering about Park Slope’s Total Wine Bar, which she says constantly has its gate down. About a week ago All About Fifth noted there was no official closing announcement for the joint but a commenter says the place has been shuttered for a month now. Guess we missed that! GMAP

So sad. I use to live a block away from this place and loved it. Though I don’t go as much now that I moved, it was sad to hear of their closing. And really?? A muffin and coffee place a block from Blue Sky and two from Gorilla?! That’s ridiculous. I guess it could be worse, though. It could be a nail salon.
*rob* – no great loss, unless you were one of the 6 or 7 employees now looking for other work. Or one of the many regulars to whom the place was a second home.
infinitejester – total had a house red and white which were reasonably priced and always quite good…
also, as to “landlord greed”…. not exactly…… the real estate manager used duplicity to defraud the owner of his rights to renew the lease in order to retain the space for her own business. which will no doubt fail, since it is a muffin place a block from blue sky…
Really WonTon? The times I went here it seemed cold and lifeless. The place was quite expensive too.
The Total Wine Bar “family” is still in touch.
We’ve been searching for a new place to colonize, but haven’t found the right place yet.
WonTon,
Totally sucks.
But the Slope is getting a new wine bar where Long Tan is on 5th.
I don’t think it’ll be nearly as great as Total, but we’ll see.
This place was my hang. More than my hang, a community. Like a Brooklyn updated version of Cheers. If Cheers had gathered gay, straight, black, white and everything in between, at the most convivial horseshoe shaped bar.
It was the kind of place where you naturally struck up conversations with strangers, many of whom became friends. And some of whom became my lifelong friends.
Landlord greed killed the place, which went out with two marvelous and memorable goodbye parties in early August.
It’s going to be replaced by…hold on…a muffin and coffee joint.
I really miss Total.
I liked this place too.
I actually liked this place a lot – this is too bad
those are fauxdegas, not bodegas
