Landlord Tries to Defend PLG Hotel
We’ve already covered the fact that a hotel had been approved for an abandoned building at 205 Parkside in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, despite the landlord’s less-than-impressive track record and strong community opposition. We’ve already covered the fact that a hotel had been approved for an abandoned building at 205 Parkside in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, despite the landlord’s less-than-impressive track record and strong community opposition. (His other buildings, the Lefferts Hotel in Clinton Hill and The Schermerhorn Prince have a documented history of violence and prostitution.) On the heels of a NY Post story and several blog posts, The Daily News talks to the landlord planning to open the 19-unit complex used for stays 30 days or longer. “I’m a religious person,” he tells The News. “No way will I permit any prostitution.” He also claims employees were promoting prostitution behind his back, and he instead plans to promote to tourist and SUNY students. Really?
Neighbors Fear Landlord Will Open Illegal PLG Hotel [NY Daily News]

This guy and his “i’m religious” please are nauseating. He is a scumbag. Go open this hotel in your own community. He made a previous agreement with the Prince Lefferts Hotel, saying he was all mr religious then too hiding behind the holocaust as a shield for trying to destroy this community, and then the prostitution and drug dealing began again soon after.
From what I understand, DOB decided after a after initially rejecting the application that they finally had the proper plans and permits in place, so what the heck! And they don’t really care if you have a track record of violations. The illegal and dangerously mounted signs on the Prince Lefferts hotel are still up against zoning violations. Thanks DOB! And Mr Fried, don’t worry about your other violations because we wont!
Can’t we not get the mayor’s office involved in this? Isn’t the DOB accountable for anything? Can the Community Board step in?
I’m curious how he gets to open a new place if the others were shut down and ordered to be vacated?
The fact he plans to spend only $60K to rehab that long abandoned building says it ALL.
How does that even pass a DOB inspection for use as a hotel? Does all of the $60K go towards bribes?
Neighbors of PLG have every reason to fear this schmuck opening up a hotel near them — “legal” or otherwise doesn’t matter in the slightest. It will be filled with drug addicts, prostitutes and violence. I believe he also owns the *Pleasant Stay* hotel on Classon, just down from the Lefferts Hotel, which I had the pleasure of living opposite for several years. We wrote letters, got a petition together, met with community leaders and nothing seemed to be able stop this guy despite the obvious criminal activity in and around his establishments. It will be a very unfortunate turn for the neighborhood if he’s allowed to open one of his *hotels* there.
So in essence, he is saying he is a terrible manager, an absentee owner who cannot handle employees or buildings, and therefore the community should trust him? OK, that’s scary.
Please see The Q at Parkside for a rundown of a meeting that took place yesterday at the offices of CB9 with Mr. Fried, his expediter, government officials, and community residents (yours truly included). Not exactly confidence-inspiring.
