A new sit-down restaurant, The Blue Roost, is opening on Tuesday in at 539 Flatbush Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Garden, at the intersection of Flatbush and Lincoln. The comfort food spot is a joint venture between neighborhood resident Linda Billings, a long-time bartender at Enduro’s and the caterer behind its cupcakes, and Billy Clark, whose partner is a well-loved dog walker in the neighborhood and also formerly a bartender at Enduro’s. Clark said the two had talked about opening a restaurant for a long time, and chose PLG because they have so many friends in the neighborhood. In fact, many of them donated chairs, lighting fixtures, mirrors and money to help the 19-seat restaurant open on a meager $30,000 budget. Hours are generally from 7am until 11 pm and Clark said it’s BYOB until they are able to get their beer and wine license.

  1. Very excited for Linda and Billy. They have both worked very, very hard to see their dream come to fruition. The food is truly stick-to-your-ribs delicious and will be particularly appealing when the cold winter weather is upon us. (And salad-lovers, be sure to try the salad with the feta cheese and Linda’s homemade biscuit. Hmmmm…Good!) I wish them much success.

  2. “I think some explanation is needed regarding LuvingModern’s comment about the food being “sooooo good” when the restaurant has yet to open”.

you make a good point, BM. that said, i am proud to say that i’ve also had the opportunity to sample Linda’s and Billy’s food but i was not at the tasting you attended a few weeks ago. anyway, what counts here is that you and i both agree that the food is good and i think others will too. i am also very exited about the opening tomorrow!

  3. I think some explanation is needed regarding LuvingModern’s comment about the food being “sooooo good” when the restaurant has yet to open. There was a fund raiser a couple of weeks ago where residents could sample Linda and Billy’s food. I was there (as, I presume was LuvingModern). The food is, indeed, sooooo good! I look forward to the opening.

I was talking to Gino, of the new Gino’s Trattoria, across the street. He was enthusiastic about this new restaurant opening. Instead of seeing it as competition, he (wisely, IMO) sees Blue Roost and other new restaurants as something that will bring more customers to all the neighborhood places. I’ve waited a very long time to see the beginnings of a thriving commercial area in PLG; I’m very happy.

  4. the food is sooooo good and the place is sooooo cute – very country french. and linda and billy are both so darn personable it’ll be the type of place you will want to go and just hang out. so exciting, go linda and billy we’re rooting for you!

  5. Several PLG residents have opened new businesses recently. The excellent wine store 65 Fen is owned by a 25-year long resident. Another couple people opened resale boutiques. There are a couple new pet stores (the other one is on Rogers Ave). Someone else local is in the planning stages of a gourmet food shop. Shows residents know what outside business owners need to learn, that there is a big, connected, loyal but still underserved customer base here. There is one space at this same prime Linoln Rd/Flatbush intersection location where this restaurant, Enduro and Lincoln Park Tavern are located, that is available and the neighborhood would love to see somebody great move into – the former Mike’s International space. It is a very rare, large ground floor restaurant space with a big sit-down section and another door and section the former business used for takeout orders only.
