When we heard Ditmas Park’s Vox Pop was closing, we took it with a grain of salt, since the establishment has been able to reopen after previous tax problems. But we were forwarded along an email that there will be a state-run auction of all the business’s assets at the cafe on September 15th. There will be the opportunity for a bulk bid on the entire contents of the Cortelyou store, and then bids for individual items. Vox Pop owner Debbie Ryan said, “On behalf of Vox Pop, and from me personally, thank you to this community for the overwhelming support over the past year and one half since it became a community owned space. I do believe that we were successful in helping to build a community and I hope that the work we started finds a way to continue.”

  1. SCRATCHbread is in the process of raising money so it can open the walk up window for the neighborhood. To date, we raised $150 from the community from our pre-opening party after costs. We look forward to offering a wholesale direct window when we can get the community to help us open it. In the mean time, to pay the bills we are supporting the very few local businesses that have supported us from the beginning, Plus every Saturday we are at the Brooklyn flea on Lafayette, come taste something! You can find out all info on our website, http://www.scratchbread.com, or email me directly for clarity on our proud presence in bed stuy. Matthew _ info@scratchbread.com.

    cheers

  2. Dave, Scratch isnt related to Bread Stuy is it? I didn’t realize this thing of raising money from the community to open your business is a trend. Maybe I should consider it. Much easier than SBA loan.
