Closing Bell: Stoop for Rod and Gun Club
A reader pointed out that Cobble Hill’s Rod and Gun Club, previously sans stoop, has got a new one. The stairs on either side, along with the built up brick is fairly uncommon for the area. Do you like it?

Yes, indeed. It’s a replica. However, the old version fits and the rebuilt version looks awful. Looks like they chose the wrong brick finish. It’s definitely possible to find new bricks that would have been a close match to the original.
On the other hand, maybe it’s just the photo.
I’d cover it with ivy, if this is how it really looks.
i am also having the sticky keys and scrolling issue! has been driving me nuts for the past week or so. websites shouldn’t do that.
that is what I thought…..always looked like that..
maybe the old bricks were too crumbly.
A little dirt and soot – color will match soon enuf.
Looks to me like the design is identical to what was there before.

Why they couldn’t rebuild the steps and save the wall, or at least re-use the original bricks, is a different question.
It’s a nice stoop, but it doesn’t go with the building.
(also having the sticky keys issue; the page also occasionally siezes up, leaving me unable to scroll up or down… I was sort of figuring it was some script on the page somewhere?)
Agreed that it looks like a cheap add-on rather than something that came with the building. Too bad they didn’t have a better budget to do a real job.
It looks like the stoop disrupts the view from the street to the front facade.
I think I hate this stoop.
But hard to tell from a photo.
The stoop makes for good cover when you’re taking fire from the enemy.
we were discussing this on MOntrose’s thread, it is hard to type on this blog suddenly.
