Closing Bell: Pop Up Gallery
It was kinda cool stumbling into this in Park Slope: the empty storefront at 200 7th Avenue is up for rent, but as the sign says, it is, in the meantime, a pop-up gallery. It wasn’t open when we stopped by but it looked like an interesting collection of art. Regardless, it’s great to see…

Right…forgot about Carmen’s, but otherwise true. Ravitz has owned that building since the late 70s, and whenever he’s between rentals he decorates the storefront with his own artwork.
Vinca,
Not true. There was “Carmen’s childrens boutique” in there for at least a year and it just closed 2 months ago.
Not a pop-up gallery, but rather a personal showcase. This drippy art is the handiwork of the building’s owner—the same building whose facade has sported drippy art (from cows to gold) since the early 80s (maybe even late 70s). The “pop-up’s” been there since early 2008, when Park Slope Books vacated the premises.
this is so not a new concept. Been doing this in the (many) vacant storefronts along a few of the more “artsy” Hudson river industrial towns for a-g-e-s…..
Especially on 7th Ave, where landlords apparently set rents that push everything interesting to 5th Ave or out of PS altogether
great idea
