We received an ad in our mailbox that caught our eye: The Foot Soldiers, which offer sidewalk, trash, and leaf cleanup while hiring local teens around Bed Stuy and Crown Heights. The program hires teenagers during the week between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in an effort to combat teen idleness. This is part of the larger Project Re-Generation, which offers various programs and activities to Bed Stuy teens. More information on Foot Soldiers can be found here.

  1. Our building hired them as well a couple of years ago. Overall the Foot Soldiers provide a really good service and their mission is one to be praised. There have been a few instances of missed service but the management team is responsive to these issues. They’re constantly looking to improve their quality of service and appreciate any feedback.

Like some of the previous commenters have mentioned the kids are courteous and friendly. I would recommend them if you’re interested.

  2. i will say one thing tho, girl on the right needs to take out her headphones lol. that doesnt fly in the real world. jk.. she probably is just sick of the kid on the left talking her ear off

  3. This is great! Since the passing of Papa Snappy, Momma Snappy has been hiring the neighborhood teen ‘hoodlums’ to work in the yard. Now, instead of littering in the street when they walk by, they yell at their friends for doing so, make them pick it up, and then point out with pride the work they did in Momma Snappy’s yard. They’ve gone from neighborhood trouble-makers to taking pride in where they live and being very vocal about keeping it nice. That attitude shift, plus learning a good work ethic and the value of a dollar, can really change a kid. Kudos to all of you who employ their services.

  4. I have two friends in Bed-Stuy and one in Clinton Hill, all homeowners, who use Foot Soldiers for street sweeping, trash, and snow removal. All three say the kids are fantastic and that the service is totally reliable and very fairly priced!

  5. I have spoken with the person in charge of this program and this organization. He is trying to provide life skills that all kids need and he should be commended for making this effort. These kids are getting mentoring and a strong show of interest from someone who cares, and that means a lot. For that reason alone, if you can afford their services, I recommend that you hire them.
