The Ninth Annual Bed-Stuy Alive! Gala Kick-off Festival takes place this Saturday, October 12, on Fulton Street between Brooklyn and New York avenues. Part of the festivities include the Restoration Rocks Music Festival at Restoration Plaza, where Big Daddy Kane, Questlove, Maya Azucena and Chrisette Michelle, among others, will perform from noon until 5 pm. There will also be an awards ceremony, face painting and games for children, a food court with local chefs and a market.
Other Bed-Stuy Alive! events will be going on all week, including free performances from New Brooklyn Theater (the group that tried to buy the Slave Theater). A celebration of Bed Stuy’s streets called “The Gift,” written and performed by Cherrye J. Davis will take place at the Gala Kick-off Saturday.
