Nolita stalwart Cafe Gitane opened a Brooklyn outpost in Vinegar Hill in late August.

The spot has a turntable and about 10 tables. The inside is rustic, in keeping with the location, with shiplap paneling and vintage curiosities and teapots nestled in the nooks of some framing.

The menu is more limited than at the original in Nolita, focusing on brunch and snacks such as an egg and merguez sandwich and carrot salad.

They close at 6 p.m. most nights but are open late Friday and Saturday, ideal for spillover from perpetually crowded next-door neighbor Vinegar Hill House. Should you want to do some sightseeing after your avocado toast, the Commandant’s House is just around the corner.

The address is 70 Hudson Avenue. The space was last occupied by Vinegar Hill House’s Hillside, a wine bar, which closed in 2014.

The cafe’s owners originally intended to open in the spring of 2017, according to a DNAinfo story published in 2016.
