The final public comment session for the hotly debated, highly controversial rezoning proposal for Brooklyn Heights’ P.S. 8 and Vinegar Hill’s P.S. 307 will be held just days into the New Year. If becoming more involved in local politics was part of your New Year’s resolution, now’s your chance.

The Community Education Council for District 13 will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, January 5, to hear final public comment, CEC statements, and a CEC vote on the revised rezoning proposal for the two schools.

The Department of Education proposal, which community members complain would be implemented too quickly and to little benefit, would relieve overcrowding at the high-scoring P.S. 8 by rezoning many of the elementary’s students for P.S. 307, which is not filled to capacity and has significantly lower test scores.

The meeting will allow for 20 minutes of public comment, 15 minutes of CEC member discussion and a roll call vote. A full schedule is available online.

The meeting will be held at 8:30 p.m. on January 5 at P.S. 56 at 170 Gates Avenue.
