We’re in the 13th week of sheltering in place and the 54th day of home schooling for New York City schools.

Congress is working on legislation to reform policing, while in New York City de Blasio has promised to reduce the budget of the NYPD and fund social programs. Ideas include hiring civilians for some police desk jobs.

The NYPD officer who shoved a young woman, giving her a concussion, has been arrested and charged with assault.

In another sickening case, police beat up renters in Crown Heights in their own building who were having a barbecue on private property Thursday, according to Gothamist.

As New York City’s phased reopening gets underway, the subways are not yet totally crowded and most riders are wearing masks, according to The City.

As local retailers experiment with curbside pickup, Cobble Hill’s Books Are Magic has opened an elaborate curbside pickup window they’ve dubbed the “Book-O-Matic.” Brooklyn Public Library has moved online and as of yet has not announced plans for grab and go services in library lobbies.

Protests continue. In Brooklyn today, events included a children’s march at Barclays Center, Jumaane Williams at Brooklyn Borough Hall, and the nightly 7 p.m. socially distanced vigil in McCarren Park.
