With winter’s cold finally behind us, it’s come time for one of Brooklyn’s biggest annual celebrations: the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Sakura Matsuri cherry blossom festival.

Celebrating its 35th year, the weekend-long party, known as “New York City’s rite of spring,” will take place this Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1. With more than 60 events and performances planned, and the cherry blossom trees in peak bloom, the garden will undoubtedly be crowded but jubilant as Brooklynites and other city dwellers turn out to celebrate both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.

The jam-packed itinerary includes the Parasol Society fashion show, a J-pop dance party, flower hat procession, tea ceremony and various cosplay-related activities, in addition to a daylong Japanese market and various displays.

Tickets for the event are available online, with adult tickets costing $25 per day and students and seniors tickets going for $20. Children under 12 get in free. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, but advance ticket holders and members will gain express entry.
