This freestanding wood-frame home on Jefferson Avenue in Bed Stuy traded for an eye-popping price of $1,700,000 in January and is slated for demolition. The house at  827 Jefferson Avenue has been greatly altered over the years, but is an Italianate likely dating from the 1860s or so.

This house recently flipped between developers. An LLC, 827 Jefferson Ave, bought the property for $1,200,000 at the end of August — a high price for this part of the neighborhood. At the end of January, the company turned around and sold the house to the similarly named 827 Jefferson LLC and 829 Jefferson LLC for $1,700,000 — a price that is likely a record for this area.

A new development is in the works. The new owners plan to subdivide the large 50 foot by 100 foot lot, according to permits. And in February the owners filed two applications, each proposing to build a new four-story building with seven apartments each. Each building will be 41 feet tall and have 4,724 square feet of space. The architect is Christopher Menziuso of Grasso Menziuso Architects.

The property is part of a row of homes on oversized lots with driveways and garages in the back — they have an almost suburban feel. It’s on a block that is bookended by the oldest church in Bed Stuy (currently also in the process of being torn down) and an eclectic row of intact brownstones to the east. The area is not landmarked, and as we’ve written before, is likely to be greatly transformed by development in the next few years.
