Last week Community Board 6 pushed back a hearing for a liquor license application at at 158 Baltic Street, at Henry. The owner is proposing a bar on Baltic Street and a Mexican restaurant at 404 Henry Street, the space next door. (The restaurant would only serve beer and wine due to its proximity to a school.) The community board expressed concern about the noise the bar might bring to the overwhelmingly residential area and the Cobble Hill Association opposed granting a booze license, calling the location “inappropriate” for a bar. CB6 pushed the hearing to next month because not enough fliers were passed out to neighbors to inform them of the application. Any nearby residents care to weigh in about the appropriateness of the business on this corner? The storefront at 404 Henry was originally slated to be a sandwich shop.

  1. There are bars SOUTH of Atlantic (Henry Public and Bocca Lupo) and maybe you could call TAZZA a bar in its evening incarnation. But I have to agree that this stretch of Henry has never had a bar or restaurant and it definitely would change the nature of the block. I wonder what happened to the years-in-the-making “sandwich shop”? They bothered to do the reno of the storefront nicely…
